When people talk about allergies and they think about chiropractic, they don’t always put those two together. However, when you think about chiropractic, most people would think about chiropractic being for back pain or neck pain, but chiropractic truly focuses on the nerve system. We can affect the nerve system in a way that will enhance the body’s immune system function. When you really think about it, your immune system doesn’t really do anything without your nerve system telling it what to do.
When you look at an allergy, it is usually a hypersensitivity to things that are already in our environment that are usually not a significant threat. Things like pollen, and other airborne particles can cause allergic reactions, which are mostly the seasonal allergies associated with pollen. What happens is, if my body looks at that pollen as something foreign and trying to invade my organism, my body, when I breathe it in, it’s actually going to cause this big immune reaction: I’m going to get the runny nose, the itchy eyes; I’m going to cough and I’m going to sneeze.
However, if we can eliminate any pressure on the nerve system (which makes the nerve system hyper-excitable and causes that overreaction to these normal stimuli), the person’s allergies will usually start to decrease in their frequency and severity. Very often, by just adjusting the spine, eliminating nerve interference, and bringing the resting tone of your nerve system down, your body’s adaptability and effectiveness in battling these things and not getting too excited when it sees these things, will be enhanced.
It’s all about making sure that your nerve system is working properly and that the bones that protect your central nervous system are in proper alignment, because when they’re not, they are going to irritate the same nerves that they are designed to protect. Irritation to the nerves causes hyper-excitability in the nerve system, which will then, in turn, enhance the overreaction to these airborne pollens and things like that, that cause these allergies for the seasonal allergy sufferer.
