There really is no single universal definition of what a high quality of life is. Generally, it would be measured by key indicators that fall into a bunch of different categories, including the individual’s own perception of their own wellbeing, how well objective factors come into their health environment, and their financial security.
The most fundamental aspect of a high quality of life is good health. Some of the key measures of good health are:
- Having good physical function
- Achieving athletic performance
- Performing the activities of daily living without limitation or pain
- Experiencing great energy levels and enough vitality to engage in our work, our hobbies and other social activities
- Getting a high quality of sleep
- Feeling well and rested
- Being free from chronic illness and debilitating diseases.
All these things could potentially diminish overall happiness and quality of life. Generally, when people have purpose and their life has a meaning, they are going to have great support in their social groups.
If you really think about it, chiropractic care supports a lot of these because chiropractic can certainly reduce the amount of pain someone’s in and improve function. Most people under chiropractic care experience better sleep quality and have higher energy levels. All this simply happens by removing interference to the nerve system. Chiropractic really is very simplistic in its application, but it’s so far-reaching in the body because it uses the nerve system. And when you understand that that nerve system is the master system controlling everything else by simply removing that nerve interference, stress, tension, poor posture, accidents and falls, all those things that create the misalignments can be brought back under control.
When there’s a lot of vertebral subluxation or misalignments in the spine, it irritates the very nerves they’re designed to protect. And when the nerves are irritated, they fire inconsistently and the messaging and information from the brain to body going back and forth is altered and it changes the way the body functions. Chiropractic simply is about restoring proper communication, eliminating that nerve interference and allowing the body to heal, run, and regulate itself, like I always say, at its optimum potential.
I understand that chiropractic plays a pretty big role in druglessly helping people with their back pain and neck pain, but that only scratches the surface. Most of what our nerve system does is imperceptible to us. Your body is a very complex machine, it secretes enzymes and hormones, it protects itself from injury, it digests your food, it rebuilds the muscles, and it regenerates all the tissues in the body, all under the nerve system control. Chiropractic will enhance nerve system function, the function of life, and it enhances life. It’s just that simple.
