What is Causing My Headache?

headache-blog

It’s hard to pay attention to the things that you’re not aware of. But when people are getting headaches and there is no particular reason for them, there could be so many causes.

We always look at lack of sleep, stress, tension, poor posture, slouching at your desk. There are even triggers that are less common like temperature changes, changes in environmetric pressure, excessive heat, excessive cold – all those things can be contributing to them. There are even some studies out there that show that it could be your weight. It was found that obese had a thirty-five to eighty percent greater chance of suffering headaches just due to obesity. There are many things that you can check out.

One of the things that we see most commonly as a chiropractor is something called forward head posture where people are constantly looking at their computers, they’re looking down at their phones and they start to lose the curves and create these misalignment patterns that irritate the cervical nerves. Some of the nerves from the cervical spine recur and go back up to the head. They can be big contributors to headaches as well as trigger points which are basically the knots in your shoulders and in the muscles at the base of the skull. Those trigger points, if they keep becoming more and more inflamed, can be a big contributor to headaches and chronic headaches at that.

My advice to anyone who has unexplained headaches is to get to a healthcare professional. See a doctor or chiropractor, neurologist, whoever it is you feel most comfortable seeing. Absolutely get checked, sometimes headaches are just that, just little headaches. Sometimes they can be signs of more significant problems such as tumors and space occupying lesions, or inability to get proper blood flow to the brain. There can be some serious causes of headaches that should always be explored and ruled out.
