3 Benefits of Getting Chiropractic Care When You Don’t Feel Pain

The most important thing to know is that chiropractic isn’t just about back pain or neck pain, it’s truly about how well the nerve system functions. When you have misalignments or subluxations, those bones misalign, and they get stuck in these abnormal positions and start to irritate the nerves. Now those nerves don’t just sense pain and move muscle, they carry information from the brain to the organs and information from the organs back to the brain. The brain can make certain compensations and adaptations to help the body not only just survive, but actually thrive in its environment. You should see a chiropractor whether you have pain or not for these three reasons:

  1. Sensing pain and moving muscle is only about 10% of what the nerve system does. 90% of the nerve system runs and regulates the body. By removing subluxations and removing nerve interference, we get improved neural function and improved neural communication. By adjusting the spine, it improves range of motion and flexibility. The better aligned your spine is, the less friction occurs and the less degenerative or arthritic changes that we see. It’s just like aligning the front end of your car. You’re not going to wear the tires funny if everything is in good alignment, especially if you drive that car fast and you drive it a lot.
  2. When we have good proper alignment, it slows down the degenerative or arthritic process or the wear and tear on the spine. As people get older, you see changes in their posture, and they move slower and hunch over a little bit. By improving the alignment, you can slow down these degenerative, arthritic changes and keep the spine healthier for a much longer period of time.
  3. There is also a lot of discussion and a lot of research pointing to when you improve nerve system function, the better communication you have between the brain and the body, and the better regulation you have of all its systems. That includes the respiratory system, the circulatory system, the immune system, and the digestive system. When you have a lot of irritation to the nerve system and a lot of stress and tension, you have more trouble digesting food. Irritation to the nerves will affect your bladder and your bowels and it can cause constipation and diarrhea. People suffering with sciatica can sometimes lose bladder and bowel control because the same nerve that sends the pain message down from the leg controls the bladder and bowel. Making sure that all those connections are solid, whether you have pain or dysfunction or not, is going to optimize the body.

It’s truly about optimizing that nerve system because we interface with the entire world through that nerve system. People hear me talking to them, that’s their nerve system at work. They’re nodding in agreement, that’s their nerve system. You feel your bottom sitting in that chair, it’s your nerve system. I always try and share that we are nerve system doctors since the nerve system connects to every single cell in your body. Every cell tissue and organ system in your body is connected to the brain through that nerve system. So, the clearer that pathway is, the better your body functions and better function means better health, less time being sick, faster healing, and all those great things.

That is why chiropractic is truly holistic. It isn’t just about back pain or neck pain because only 10% of your nerve system is dedicated to sensing pain and moving muscle. So, if you’re just seeing a chiropractor when your back aches and neck aches, you’re really only getting 10% of what a chiropractor has to offer. The true meat and potatoes is in increasing the level of communication between the brain and the body, making sure there is no interference and optimizing your nerve system’s control over all the other systems, therefore optimizing your health. That’s it in a nutshell.
