Five Health Resolutions for 2021

1. See a Chiropractor

I am a little partial, but seeing a chiropractor in my opinion always should be number one, because the health of your spine really dictates how healthy your body is. A healthy spine means a healthy nervous system because your spine is designed to protect your central nervous system. If those bones in the spine are misaligned from stress, tension, poor posture, accidents, falls, they will pinch and irritate the nerves and that will affect how your nerve system works. So, seeing a chiropractor is always number one in my book, but then again, I might be a little biased.

2. Get Regular Exercise

Number two has got to be exercise. Exercising is key because it gets you outside, it keeps you moving and exercise will improve your health in a lot of different ways. It will help you have more energy, it will increase your endurance, your strength, it will help you sleep better, and people even digest food better when their body is more fit. So, exercise is a key component to health and to making sure that you’re doing everything you can to keep everything moving stress-free.

3. Manage Stress

I would say number three has got to be stress management. Stress has been out of control for the past 11 months. People are worried about getting sick, they’re worried about their family, they’re worried about their finances. People are just worried. Our way of life has changed dramatically, and people are in much more stress. Now, a chiropractor can’t make your stress go away, but they can certainly help you with the physical manifestations of it. Additionally, stress management is important because wherever your mind goes, your body goes. And if your mind is in stress, then your body is going to be in stress. And then it makes your body have to work a lot harder to heal, run, and regulate itself. So that is another important part; some people need to talk to therapists, some people need yoga, some people meditate. Whatever it is, you have got to reduce the amount of stress that you’re looking at.

4. Get Plenty of Rest

I would say number four is getting plenty of rest. Our bodies heal and regenerate when we are at rest. And what’s interesting is when people are “sick” or not feeling good, what they are really experiencing is their body talking to them. Your body talks to you, your body is smart, and it lets you know, when you’re sick or you’re feeling tired and your joints are achy and you’re nauseous and dizzy and have a headache. That is basically your body making sure that you stand down, because if you ignore all those things or take a couple of medications and start to feel a little better and go back to work, you’re stressing your body and you’re not allowing it to heal. Your body heals at rest. That’s why, when you’re not feeling so great, it is your body telling you to just stay in bed and rest and heal. And then when you’re feeling better, your energy will come back and you can get back out there.

5. Eat a Healthy Diet

And then number five, I guess, always goes back to diet. Diet and health have been as simplified as much as “garbage in equals garbage out,” but you really need to make sure that you are eating lots of fruits and vegetables and getting vitamin D. I previously spoke about vitamin D and how important it is and there are all these studies showing that the effects of COVID are magnified with people who have vitamin D deficiency. It’s important to eat organic, but it’s got to be within your budget. So, selecting certain foods that are organic are important, if you can afford it.

Most importantly, we just need to stay positive and keep moving through and focus on the good stuff and don’t continue staring at the negative stuff. I do a lot of skiing. And one of the things is when you’re skiing in the woods, if you look at the trees, you’re going to hit the trees. You need to be looking at the spaces in between where the pretty line and the beautiful snow is. So, I know not everyone is going to get that analogy, but it’s really part of life, where you put your attention is what you see. So, it’s so important to stay positive through these crazy times. And those are the top five things I would say are going to help people and are going to be good resolutions for 2021 as we go through the rest of this pandemic.
