A Healthy Nervous System Helps Fight Off Chronic Disease

A chronic disease is typically any type of disease or disease process that you’ve had typically for more than two or three months. So chronic refers to the time or how long you’ve had a problem. And in my opinion, it doesn’t really matter if a condition is acute or chronic.

Chiropractic works with a principle, and it always works in the same way. Chiropractic focuses on detecting and removing what are called vertebral subluxations or misalignments of the spine. So, by eliminating these misalignments or vertebral subluxations, it eliminates nerve interference. When the bones slip out of their normal position, it can irritate, or pinch, or occlude the opening where the nerves come out from in between the vertebrae. That irritation to the nerve changes the communication or the messaging in the body from the brain to the body.

So typically, these misalignments or subluxations can be caused by stress, tension, poor posture, accidents, falls, and these things can accumulate over a lifetime, create these subluxations, and start irritating the nerve system.

It’s so important that you keep your spine and nerve system healthy throughout the course of your lifetime, not waiting for chronic pain or a problem or symptoms to show up. And what’s interesting to me is no one does that with their teeth. You don’t wait until your teeth hurt to start brushing them. You don’t wake up on the morning of a dental appointment and say, “My teeth don’t hurt. I’m not going to go.” You still go because if you maintain your teeth in a healthy manner, they’re going to last you a lifetime. And we need that for the same thing with the spine.

We want everyone to keep their spine and nerve system healthy and get checked by a chiropractor today because the nerve system controls and coordinates everything else that goes on in your body. So, whether it be acute or a long-standing chronic condition, make no mistake about it. Every cell tissue and organ is connected to those nerves that originate in processing information from the brain to the rest of the body, and then that information goes back up to the brain. If you interfere with that cycle and you change the communication and put pressure and tension on those nerves, it can irritate the nerves, make the muscles tight, which can start to subluxate them, and then cause more pain and ill health.

But remember that those nerves don’t just sense pain and move muscle. They control your heart, your lungs, your kidneys, your spleen, your intestines. Your immune system is all neuro-regulated, so all these things can contribute to chronic suffering and chronic disease. By mitigating and eliminating nerve interference, you get that nerve system running like it’s on a DSL or a T1 line, and that’s what keeps a body healthy. Proper nerve supply, proper rest, proper nutrition. It’s multifactorial. Chiropractic isn’t a magic bullet. It doesn’t cure everything that ails you. But by improving nerve system function and eliminating nerve interference, your body is optimized, and it’s running on that DSL or that T1 line, not that cruddy dial-up we started with 30 years ago.
