Natural Pain Relief for Chronic Pain

I get asked an awful lot, “How can chiropractors provide natural pain relief for people experiencing chronic pain?” People are coming to me with painful conditions that they have had for many, many years. Now, when you truly understand how chiropractic works and what it was founded to do, it is not necessarily just a treatment for pain.

Chiropractic reduces something called vertebral subluxation, which is a misalignment of the vertebrae. When the vertebrae misalign, and that could be caused by stress, tension, poor posture, accidents, falls, a myriad of different things that will accumulate over time, they can pinch or irritate the spinal nerves.

The spinal nerves exit from in between adjacent vertebrae, and the vertebrae, which are the bones of the spine, are designed to protect them. Unfortunately, when they misalign, they will irritate the same nerves that they are designed to protect. When we have that irritation of the nerve, it can cause pain that can start in the neck or in the lower back. It can go down the back of the legs and travel throughout the body.

By using a system of gently adjusting or correcting the alignment to the vertebrae that are misaligned, we can eliminate that pressure on those nerves and allow the body to start healing once that pressure is removed. Obviously, if you pinch a nerve it can cause pain or discomfort, numbness or tingling. I always get happy when Susie Sciatica goes away or Nancy Neck Pain goes away, but that’s not the main purpose of our office.

We teach people that if you care for your spine, keep it aligned properly, you are going to have less irritation, better mechanics. The spine will last longer and function better. Chiropractic can keep your spine and nerve system healthy for the rest of your life. The healthier your nerve system, the healthier you are, and that’s what chiropractic is truly about. Don’t get me wrong. We provide tons of people with a lot of pain relief for painful conditions like neck pain, back pain, herniated disks, and I’m glad to provide that service, but if you use chiropractic for only pain relief, you’re really only getting about 10% of what a chiropractor has to offer.
